Show Notes

This week on Parent Tell, Kaila had the absolute joy of talking with Dr. Carline Crevecoeur, a retired OB/GYN who homeschooled her 5 children up until college. Kaila and Carline ended up enjoying multiple topics of conversation during their hour long chat but the primary focus was giving Carline the space to talk about how being a Black mom in America is different from a white mom's experience. From constantly worrying about her sons once they reached driving age, making sure that her children learned more Black history than the standard MLK and Rosa Parks curriculum touted in most public schools, and expressing the fact that Black childhood is often cut short.
Kaila and Dr. Crevecoeur have some lighter moments too (like the fact that they both married white men but only one of them has a sense of rhythm), because a hugely necessary and heavy conversation needs some light, which is very much a metaphor for the way life and the world has been for all of us over the last 2 years.

Dr. Crevecoeur wrote a book about her experiences homeschooling her children and it can be purchased here, or on Amazon.
Dr. Crevecoeur's website can be found here
